Über diesen Titel

Every day women are reinventing what it means to be female in cultures where power, privilege or basic freedoms are all too often equated with being male. One of the most tenacious campaigners of her generation, Caroline Criado-Perez introduces us to these pioneering women.

We meet the first woman to cross the Antarctic alone; a female fighter pilot in Afghanistan; a Chilean revolutionary turned politician; and the Iranian journalist who dared to uncover her hair.

" Do It Like a Woman brings together stories of kick-ass women from around the world who have shown great heroism and bravery. It's rousing and immensely readable." ( Good Housekeeping)

The book is well written. The stories about the women are impressive, touching and inspirational. It’s also interesting to see in which ways the world has or has not changed in the last 10 years since the book came out. From some things getting better (e.g Saudi Arabic women are allowed to drive) and some things getting worse again (e.g Afghanistan which is really sad and the situation of refugees in the UK).
Perez does a good job at reading the book. Although it was a little hard at first to understand her accent (non native English speaker).
I gave only 4 stars because I expected more stories of women and less facts and data about the hardship, the threats, the sexism, .. of (those) women. It is important to talk about those things for sure, but I was expecting more of an inspirational, you can do everything, here’s the proof book. Talking this much about the hardships has in some cases the contrary effect.

Very interesting

Well selected stories of women around the world, battling a battle for many generations to come. One might need to stop the audiobook here and there to get a hold on how brave these women are and how ridiculous the world made by men for men still is, literally everywhere. “If the world is designed around you, you will likely not see the need to change a thing” Every story gets the right amount of words, very well put together. At least one jaw-dropping wtf moment in every story.

The tip of the iceberg

I bought this book to listen to on my 30 min drive to and from work. I thought a nice book with some inspiring stories should be pretty relaxing.
I couldn't have been more wrong. Nothing about this book is relaxing. Caroline Criado-Perez describes in brutal honest details how this world has failed women systematically again and again. She describes her interview with brave, strong or just desperate women who fight for their rights, recognition, education, health, justice, safety and their lifes.
The stories are told clearly and precisely. Each gets it's time and enough space to be comprehensive. The author then adds informative commentary and puts the individual stories into a broader context. While that may sound dry it isn't: this book is packed not only with information but with emotion!
I am currently listening to chapter 5 of 7 and I already have to say: this is one of the best books I've read or listened to in years!
I learned a lot about the world and about some really interesting and inspiring people in it. I also learned about myself and my history as I reflected upon it in the light of those stories.

I think everyone should read or hear this book! It doesn't matter what gender you are this book is mostly about equality and fighting for a better world. We all could use a bit more of that.

Brutally honest and crystal clear
