Über diesen Titel

Instant #1 New York Times bestseller! • #1 Washington Post bestseller! • #1 Indie Bestseller! • USA Today Bestseller!

John Green, acclaimed author and passionate advocate for global healthcare reform, tells a deeply human story illuminating the fight against the world’s deadliest infectious disease.

“The real magic of Green’s writing is the deeply considerate, human touch that goes into every word.” –The Associated Press

″Told with the intelligence, wit, and tragedy that have become hallmarks of the author’s work.... This is the story of us.” –Slate

“Earnest and empathetic.” –The New York Times

Tuberculosis has been entwined with humanity for millennia. Once romanticized as a malady of poets, today tuberculosis is seen as a disease of poverty that walks the trails of injustice and inequity we blazed for it.

In 2019, author John Green met Henry Reider, a young tuberculosis patient at Lakka Government Hospital in Sierra Leone. John became fast friends with Henry, a boy with spindly legs and a big, goofy smile. In the years since that first visit to Lakka, Green has become a vocal advocate for increased access to treatment and wider awareness of the healthcare inequities that allow this curable, preventable infectious disease to also be the deadliest, killing over a million people every year.

In Everything Is Tuberculosis, John tells Henry’s story, woven through with the scientific and social histories of how tuberculosis has shaped our world—and how our choices will shape the future of tuberculosis.

Kritikerstimmen

Green uses the stories of real people to turn overwhelming problems into something personal and understandable.” –The Associated Press

Everything Is Tuberculosis doesn’t so much tell you the story of tuberculosis, as much as it gently holds your hand and parts the curtains into one of the darkest, most bizarre, and frustrating series of decisions in world history with the other.. A quintessential John Green book: one that grapples with the issue of mortality and our conflicting desires to both help and hurt one another, all within the backdrop of the coming of age of a young man.” –Slate

“Henry’s story is hopeful and heartbreaking; readers will be rooting for him and his family the whole way through.” –SLJ, starred review

An exceptional combination of memoir, medical history and cultural analysis…. Memorably probes the intersections of medicine and human emotion.” –BookPage, starred review

Green writes expertly of the illness’s history, causes, and cure…. Makes what might be inaccessible accessible.” –Booklist, starred review

A story of hope and tragedy that feels terribly relevant at a time when the global healthcare system is coming under attack.” –The AV Club

Rarely a book has made me tear up so much. Informative yes, but so so human.

This book caught me immediately in the first charter and I couldn't stop listening until it ended. The variety of topics addressed during all chapters is fascinating and I loved the deep dives in each of the aspects. This is so much more than a book about tuberculosis. It's the whole world from the perspective of tuberculosis.

My new favourite book

One of the most moving an beautiful pieces of literature I have heard in a long time. Which in so many ways is about so much more than TB. Told with a comforting and sometimes heartwrenching closeness making the for me previously distant topic so much more personal and showing the humanity behind TB.

A reflection of our humanity and its faults in the eyes of the world deadliest infectious disease

I immensely enjoyed "The Anthropocene Reviewed," and this book (again) shows John's talent for bringing something very personal and insightful to non-fiction/educational content. I hope John Green will continue to bless us with (and narrate) non-fiction books.

Beautifully written

What an incredibly heart felt, yet intensively researched and, at times, gut wrenchingly heartbreaking story. I, like many others, had no clue that this disease is still so present in the 21st century. Living in a 1st world country often times makes me forget how much injustice is still happening in this very world that we all live in. Thank you, John Green, for your efforts to educate others on this topic and for giving a voice to Henry!
