    Inhaltsangabe

As a botanist and professor of plant ecology, Robin Wall Kimmerer has spent a career learning how to ask questions of nature using the tools of science. As a Potawatomi woman, she learned from elders, family, and history that the Potawatomi, as well as a majority of other cultures indigenous to this land, consider plants and animals to be our oldest teachers.

In Braiding Sweetgrass, Kimmerer brings these two lenses of knowing together to reveal what it means to see humans as "the younger brothers of creation". As she explores these themes, she circles toward a central argument: The awakening of a wider ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgement and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the world. Once we begin to listen for the languages of other beings, we can begin to understand the innumerable life-giving gifts the world provides us and learn to offer our thanks, our care, and our own gifts in return.

If you can only read one more book let it be this one

This is THE most beautiful book I have ever red. Every word is like part of a poem, an ancient prayer, a thank you to mother earth. What a wonderful gift Robin has given the world with her words, sharing her wisdom and those of her people.

    The Honorable Harvest

I consider "Braiding Sweetgrass" one of the most important books I have read/listened to this far. Beautifully narrated by the author herself. The chapter on "The Honorable Harvest" is among my favourite passages - such clear principles that can make such a big difference to life and to all our relations. Thank you, dear Robin!

What a beautiful love letter to nature

Braiding sweetgrass reads like a beautiful love letter to creation. The chapters each describe a situation where the author experienced a deep connection with nature which is honoured and appreciated. Like a braid of sweetgrass the stories are woven from the author's knowledge as a botanist, from indigenous teachings and believes and nature's spirit which is viewed with a curious appreciation. Wall's quest to live in a reciprocal symbiosis with nature is deeply inspiring.
