I went through hell and back listening to this book because it was SO brilliant. Moving, thrilling story. It kept me on the edge the whole 11 hours. It was wonderful to dive into this second part, I missed Seb's sass and inner monolgue, it's such a strong narrative voice.

Grateful to the trigger warnings at the start of the book, they were helpful. Thank you Josh Silver for making me laugh and cry and yell and swoon. This is a truly beautiful and moving story.
Thank you Huw Parmenter for bringing so much life to the characters once again I had the best time listening.

Fantastic second book, highly recommended

I was kinda lukewarm on book one, found it frustrating and a bit trite but since it ended on a cliffhanger I wanted to see if it's get better in part two. The good part, it's hard not to like the main protagonists and the mank banter between them. Also the narrator is top tier and elevates the book, acting it more than just narrating it. But what irks me to no end is this sadistic glee, the author seems to have in torturing his protagonists. And their refusal to actually fight back. Where Adam Sass and other try to channel abuse into rage and defiance, this is just chapter after chapter of torture and characters being destroyed. Long after we got the gist, tbh we got it in book one, this is just endless rinse of repeat of characters reveling helpless in trauma. There's nothing to be learned or examined here, it's just rinse and repeat sadism cosplaying therapy. And then it ends with a deus ex machina rescue that's unearned and felt like 5 more minutes guys we need to wrap shit up. It's so basic in its psychology, so one note in the character development and I felt actively annoyed by the end. Like that's it? That's the end after 11h of torture?
