Eine wirklich tief gehende Story mit spannenden Wendungen. Hab's wirklich von vorne bis hinten durch gesuchtet. Abby Craden ist dann noxch die Krönung. Diese Stimme ist einfach der Wahnsinn! Tolles Buch!

Eines meiner Lieblingsbücher

Ich liebe Jae´s Bücher. Und die Portland-Serie gehört zu meinen absoluten Favoriten.
Die Geschichte ist sehr gefühlvoll geschrieben und man fühlt mit den Protagonistinnen mit. Jae hat mich dem Thema "sexuelle Gewalt an Frauen" mit dieser Geschichte näher gebracht und man kann nur hoffen, dass die Frauen im wahren Leben auch wieder ins Leben zurückfinden. Die zaghafte Annäherung der Beiden hat mich zum Teil schon fast platzen lassen vor Neugier, aber das ist typisch Jae - und dafür liebe ich ihre Bücher!

Zu Abby Craden: super gesprochen, Emotionen, Witz und unterschiedliche Charaktere wurden sehr gut übermittelt. Sehr angenehme tiefere Stimme, an die man sich sehr schnell gewöhnt und gar nicht mehr ausschalten mag. Größter Pluspunkt ist die saubere Aussprache!

Freue mich schon auf die Fortsetzung :-)

Super Geschichte - super erzählt

I bought the book when it was published and later got the audio, too.

Even after this long time I still like to listen to the story once in a while, since the characters, their development, and story are believable and interesting to follow.

Jae's books are about normal but strong women and their way to love and happiness. I can always relate and it never gets old.

And Abby Craden always does a wonderful narration.

The story is a hard topic to write and read about, but sadly it is harsh reality for many. It is well read, although now that I have read a number of books voiced by Abby Craden they all sound the same and the voices melt into one. This book is ok...it is hard to criticise such a hard topic, so yes have a go. I have not yet gone to the second one, as it is rather predictable. At some point though, just to complete the set and story will get the 2nd book too.

So let's start by saying this is an amazing story and contrasted to Jae's other books much more mature and complex.

What surprised me though is that it is completely different from what I imagined after reading the summary.

I thought I would deal with an of the shelf story about a cop and a psychologist coming closer over solving a crime together, angst and tension added by the supposed conflict of Dawn with Aidens job.

This was not the case at all. Instead the arc focuses on the hardships in attraction and the relationship to a sexual assault survivor.

Hence the book is filled with many explicit descriptions of rape and its consequences. A trigger warning would have been advisable.

Non the less it was a well written, respectful and sensitive portrayal of the reality of sexual assault.

If this is a topic you are comfortable with, you are in for a beautiful story.

I did not expect the topic of SA etc. to be at the core of this book and if I had known I would have probably be hesitant to listen to it, but I was drawn in nonetheless. Listening to this book has been incredibly helpful to find a new perspective on my own struggles with intimacy after negative sexual experiences. Beautiful story and careful coverage of difficult topics. WlI wholeheartedly recommend it!

I really liked the book but I didn't get warm with the major characters.
The story is told with a great deal of delicacy despite the sensitive subject.

Still, as soon as Kade Matheson was introduced, I got distracted. I wasn't too interested in Aiden and Dawn anymore and the last 3 or 4 hours of the book felt as if they dragged on and on.

This also had to do with the fact that as soon as the trial was over at half of the book, the book told the story of how Aiden and Dawn became closer and finally made love. While it was very believable, I didn't find it too exciting to listen to. There weren't any interesting twists, it was all sunshine and roses despite the obvious bumps. The book ended with Dawn finally sleeping with Aiden. For me, that's not a very exciting ending.

All in all, while I liked the first half of the book, I found the latter half boring.

I was so happy to see that there's in fact part 2 of the series about Kade and Del.

Maybe, buy just maybe a guide how to treat rape victims.
apart from that this is the most unrealistic characters I have ever come across.
and it is just repeats and repeats and repeats itself.
never met a cop like that, never met a therapist that doesn't think therapy for herself is a good idea and never met so many woman that suddenly turn gay when a woman suggests it would be a good idea.
