Über diesen Titel

Dr. Lisa Mosconi, whose research spans an extraordinary range of specialties including brain science, the microbiome, and nutritional genomics, notes that the dietary needs of the brain are substantially different from those of the other organs, yet few of us have any idea what they might be. Her innovative approach to cognitive health incorporates concepts that most doctors have yet to learn. Busting through advice based on pseudoscience, Dr. Mosconi provides recommendations for a complete food plan, while calling out noteworthy surprises, including why that paleo diet you are following may not be ideal, why avoiding gluten may be a terrible mistake, and how simply getting enough water can dramatically improve alertness.

Including comprehensive lists of what to eat and what to avoid, a detailed quiz that will tell you where you are on the brain health spectrum, and 24 mouth-watering brain-boosting recipes that grow out of Dr. Mosconi's own childhood in Italy, Brain Food gives us the ultimate plan for a healthy brain. Brain Food will appeal to anyone looking to improve memory, prevent cognitive decline, eliminate brain fog, lift depression, or just sharpen their edge.

I appreciate the author and the book. It helps to understand what a brain needs to remain healthy and the crucial role if nutrition in it. Also, Dr. Mosconi debunks a lot of false believes about brain-healthy nutrition. I have been able to confidently change my diet for the better and I really look and feel better after a year of following it.
Audio-format is good, but I recommend buying a paper or e-book format, too (or instead), because there's a test with 80 questions and a few recipes in this book, which are not provided as PDF attachment to the audio-book.
The only thing which irritates me a lot is that Dr. Mosconi recommends drinking red wine - one glass a day, because of antioxidants. Although, she also briefly writes about harm of alcohol to the brain. Drinking alcohol every day, even in small amounts is an alcoholic behaviour. Alcohol is poisonous to the brain! There are plenty of other, better sources of antioxidants, free from alcohol or other toxins! It's astonishing that she writes to never eat e.g. pork because it's harmful, but a portion of alcohol every day she practically prescribes! That's why I can't give 5 points, although the book is really good otherwise. It is a sad example of how normalisation of things like alcohol consumption in the society and strong cultural background (she is from a wine drinking country) get in the way of logic and common sense even in a book of a brilliant researcher and scientist.

Brilliant, thank you

Very explanatory on the relationship between food and the brain. Also insightful on the mechanisms of body’s biochemistry. Appreciated as audiobook!

Great book for knowing more about food effect on the brain

I don't even know how to begin. Positive: the essentials are okay, I'd say. The negatives: the author forgets in her quest for clean eating, that most people on earth can't afford organic, free range, bless by the Pope foods. Therefore, conventionally grown produce, or frozen veggies or fruit are demonized. I find this quite an elitist approach to brain health: the equivalent of saying that if you are poor you are not entitled a ticket to the brain health train. I would have wished for a more moderate approach in the organic front, and more accessible options for the majority of the population, she tried but the result was sort of, if you buy organic free range blessed foods online or in bulk you might not need to sell both kidneys, just one! caviar is her secret nutritional weapon!, really? Spring water, or nothing! I wouldn't recommend this book.

if your can't afford caviar as part of regular diet, don't read this book
