IT'S MY BODY THERE ON THE TABLE

Pathologist Maura Isles has dissected her fair share of corpses. But this time it's different, because the victim looks exactly like her.

Detective Jane Rizzoli is assigned to investigate, and finds herself tracking a twisted killer across the country. To catch him, Maura is forced to delve into a dark and dangerous family history - her own.

A rip-roaring plot with scares and bumps on every page... A first-class modern thriller, but certainly not one for reading at night
A twisting, terrifying tale
Ghoulish but thrilling
This is crime writing at its unputdownable, nerve-tingling best (Harlan Coben)

Tess Gerritsen's fourth Rizzoli & Isles installment, "Body Double," thrusts readers into a perplexing tale as Dr. Maura Isles returns home to an unsettling discovery – a crime scene featuring a victim eerily resembling her. My initial impression was skepticism, deeming the plot a bit far-fetched, making it challenging to discuss without revealing spoilers.

As the narrative unfolded, the discovery of additional victims left me questioning the potential connections between these cases. The introduction of a live victim added another layer of intrigue, prompting speculation about the killer's motives and sanity.

Detective Rizzoli's limited presence disappointed, especially after the prior installment, "The Sinner." With guarded sentiments from Maura's past experiences, the dynamics of her relationships, particularly with Ballard, felt uncertain. Despite the unconventional plot, the book maintained an undeniable grip, making it challenging to set aside.

While the resolution delivered an unexpected twist, the overall impact fell short compared to its predecessor. The narrative, though suspenseful and occasionally eerie, lacked the depth that drew me into the previous book's storyline. Despite this, the novel's unique elements and the unforeseen conclusion ensure my commitment to continuing the Rizzoli & Isles series.

A Suspenseful, Yet Ambiguous Thriller
