I can't wait for the third book of the trilogy. Many parts of he first book are tied together nicely but leaving enough space for the third.

Strong messages and a cohesive narrative make this even more enjoying for me than some great works of Brandon Sanderson or Patrick Rothfuss.

if you liked the first one, this book will keep you going, but as with all such books it gets pretty "epic", which I myself don't enjoy too much.

Je mehr der Charakter Kaiden über seine Vergangenheit erfährt, umso unglaubwürdiger wird sein Teil der Story. Manchmal hätte ich diesen Teil am liebsten überspult. Die anderen Teile der Geschichte bleiben spannend und ich freue mich auf den nächsten Band.

If you like the idea of epic fantasy with interesting worlds and lots of characters but can't stand the long stretches of zero story development in the Wheel of Time then this is the book for you. You get to visit a carefully crafted world with a fast paced storyline. Stop paying attention for a second and you're lost with no clue of what just happened. I'd probably have enjoyed reading this myself even more for that exact reason but Michael Kraemer does such a good job narrating that it's a close call.
I'm currently anxiously waiting for the end of the month so I can spend my new credit on book 3.

Tried to get into the series twice. While book one was solid with some low point, this one is just off-putting.
Multiple story lines, time shifts and little progress.
Characters are either not interesting or just not likeable.

Bounced off the series twice now, at about the same point in book two.
Potential was there, execution not so much.
Narrator is ok, puts a lot of work into it, but the story is just meh.

A mess of a story

I got completely lost. Too many persons, to many places, and more and more mysterious secrets are relentlessly piled up. Most characters have names with variations of ush, esh, ar or something alike. I could hardly distinguish 5 out of (too) many characters. Impossible to keep track, neither of the actors, nor of any reasonable coherence. The whole book is an impenetrable mess of apperently uncorrelated pieces of the overall story that are presumably supposed to fall into place at the end. Honestly, I don't want to disentangle the damn riddle, all the more, I cannot even remember all those little pieces. First, I got bored since the story didn't progress at all. Finally, I have stopped listening, after I had realised that my mind had frequently drifted away. Islington's way of constructing the story has screwed it up though it had actually been quite promising at the beginning.
