The level of detail though breathtaking is just right. The book is also vastly enriched through many anecdotes making it very personal.

Very comprehensive and entertaining. Bryson tells Earth and life's history in a very humorous and knowledgable way. Paired with William Robert's performance this is a brillian audio book. Of course, there have been developments and discoveries he could only hint at or could not have seen coming, e.g. the proof of the Higgs Bozon and of gravitational waves, or the return of H1N1.

Bill Bryson kann schwierige Materie großartig in verständliche Sprache übersetzen und erzählen. Aber wenn man sein Buch bis zum Ende angehört hat, ist man zur Überzeugung gelangt, dass Wissenschaftsgeschichte im Großen und Ganzen eine angelsächsische Angelegenheit war. Zwar haben auch deutsche, französische oder italienische Forscher ab und zu irgendwas herausgefunden, meistens aber waren es Amerikaner, Engländer und Australier.

Großartiger Erzähler

Dies ist ein wirklich außergewöhnliches Buch! Der Titel klingt ja etwas trocken und großspurig, aber er ist wahr und hält was er verspricht. In diesem Buch wird wirklich alles was man schon immer mal wissen wollte, aber sich nicht zu fragen traute, aufgeführt. Und das Ganze sogar noch auf unterhaltsame Art. Ich kann nicht erklären woran es genau liegt, aber Brysons Art etwas zu erklären ist einmalig! Auch fehlt es nie an Witz und Ironie, die das Zuhören so auflockern. Ich kann dieses Buch nur empfehlen, sogar für die Schule, denn es deckt so ziemlich jeden Fachbereich ab (und man müßte nur ein Schulbuch kaufen!)

Wonderful book! the only problem I can see is that many parts of the book are now outdated. A good example is that Pluto is still referred to as a planet in the book. Would be amazing if the book is updated in a new volume.

I went in to this book with low expectations since I study a science related subject and am already aware of the origins and applications of many concepts, but this book surprised me not only because of the beauty of the explanations and organisation, but also because of how wide the spectrum of topics is! It's not just physics or astronomy or biology, but all of it.
It truly is a short history of nearly everything!

Bill Bruton is a good author I read the book and it was amazing I suggest that you read the book first and then the audiobook
