The book seems thouroughly researched and is entertainingly narrated, but does not cover the last 20 years. The most recent reference is a quote from George W Bush before 9/11.

Adding chapters for the 2000s and 2010s or the age of the internet in general would be great.

Informative but outdated

This is a fantastic book about language and the hypercentral world idiom English in particular. It offers a plethora of highly interesting facts, ranging from history to anatomy to sociology to grammar, diatopical differences and grammar. I cannot possibly recommend this audio book enough. It is a sheer treasure trove for every language lover!

The rapidfire spelling out of words surely does not do the text justice. The pace is just too high to fully appreciate Bryson‘s well thought out points.
