Great narrator in the voice of Oprah, but Marvel and Olivia (one foster home) were completely retracted from this version, so I had to look it up in the book as I felt like it was leaving a part out of Astrid’s growth and character development.

Ich bin von diesem Hoerbuch enttaeuscht. Ich habe dieses Buch geliebt und habe mich sehr darauf gefreut, alle Stationen in Astrids Leben noch einmal zu durchlaufen. Leider wurde diese Version so stark gekuerzt, dass man nur die 3 Familien erlebt, die auch in dem Kinofilm ausgewaehlt wurden.

Oprah Winfrey hat eine wundervolle Stimme, sie ist als Sprecherin fuer die Geschichte perfekt. Die Geschichte an sich ist auch toll, Janet Finch hat hier eines meiner Lieblingsbuecher geschrieben.

Aber in diesem Hoerbuch fehlt ein wichtiger Teil, sie hat noch einen Abschnitt in ihrem Leben, bei dem sie bei einer sehr rassistischen Familie lebt und von einem Hund verletzt wird und ein Abschnitt, in der sie kaum etwas zu essen bekommt. Im Buch ist der Kontrast zu ihrer guten Lebenssituation und der vorher schlechten Lebenssituation viel extremer.

I greatly enjoyed the book when I read it first. But Oprah’s voice gives the novel the final touch. Warm, liquid honey and melancholy. Great!
