Review of The Words by A. Jade
I truly enjoyed this audiobook. The character development and growth were incredibly well done—I experienced such a wide range of emotions, full of depth and nuance. It made me reflect on how layered and psychologically coherent the characters' life paths were. The Words offers a beautiful opportunity to live through a heartbreaking love story that, against all odds, leads to a happy ending. A deeply moving and memorable listening.
Loved also both his/hers perspective in chapters!

The Words is filled with so much drama and angst, and I couldn't stop listening!

The story is divided into two: Part 1 is set at the end of High School and shows how Lennon and Phoenix met and his ultimate betrayal. Part 2 is set in the present, with Lennon hired as Pheonix's sober companion for their tour.

I always say that I love second chances and MMCs who mess up and need to grovel, but I think I have a limit to how much they hurt the FMC beforehand, and this book almost pushed it.
For 70% of the book, I HATED Pheonix. He did one hurtful shit after the other, and while, he has dealt with a lot, it did not excuse one bit how he stomped all over the FMC.

BUT!!! But...I couldn't stop listening! A. Jade's writing style was captivating, and the narration was incredible!
Suddenly, my feelings for Phoenix did a 180, and I started to LOVE him?! 🫣 His chemistry with Lennon was incredible, and the little things he did for her captured my heart. I love it when the MMC regrets his actions and tries to make up for them. Though I would have enjoyed more groveling from him, what was offered was great!

Lennon was an interesting FMC. She got bÜllied and body-shamed in school and has to deal with a lot in the present time, but she pulled through, and I admire her strength and resilience. Both characters have to deal with a lot, but I rooted for them at the end. This book has some pretty sensitive content, so be aware of that before going into it!

Also, some twists that happened I didn't see coming, and I liked them. I also loved the rockstar/ tour setting, and I want to pick up more books in that subgenre now!
After all the drama in this book, I feel drained, but Lennon and Phoenix's story was a crazy ride, and I'm happy I gave it a shot!

what a wonderful, heartwrenching story, that still manages to be funny and entertaining. Narrators did a great job as well!

Ich habe mir das Hörbuch gekauft, weil es reduziert mittels Kindle Unlimited erworben werden kann. Ich habe es nicht bereut. Lennon unterstützt in der Schule Phoenix und wird von ihm am Ende sehr enttäuscht. Jahre später treffen sie sich wieder... Ich fand es eine sehr schöne Geschichte zum Thema Rockstars und zweite Chancen.

Die Charaktere sind unsympathisch, die Dialoge und die Handlung insgesamt so oft cringe, ich konnte es einfach nicht zu Ende hören. Ich fand auch die Sprecher nicht gut, besonders wenn die weibliche Sprecherin männliche Parts spricht.
