Spannend bis zum Ende

Nach der Lektüre der wirklich nervenzermürbenden Serienmorde in den Vorgängern The Surgeon" (Die Chirurgin) und The Apprentice" (Der Meister) hatte ich mir mit The Sinner" einen ähnlich mitreißenden Thriller erhofft. Doch leider....
Das Buch gleicht eher einem, wenn auch netten, aber kitschig-dramatischen Beziehungsroman.
Schade, denn die eigentliche Story ist erstklassiger Stoff, könnte einen Hammer-Thriller abgeben. Jedoch kommt diese ursprüngliche Handlung leider nur allzu wenig zur Geltung, scheint eher nur den spannenden Background für die ausführlichst ausgebreiteten Männerprobleme" der beiden Protagonistinnen zu liefern. Die Pathologin Maura Iles, die wohl noch immer ihre Scheidung verarbeitet, was kaum dadurch erleichtert wird, dass ihr Ex-Mann nach Jahren urplötzlich wieder auf der Bildfläche erscheint. Und Detective Jane Rizolli, die mit den Folgen ihrer Affäre aus dem letzten Buch fertig werden muss. Nicht zu vergessen, ihr ewiger Kampf als Mitglied des schwachen Geschlechts" in einer ach so harten Männerwelt". Sollte dieser nicht, nach Austragung in den beiden letzten Büchern, wirklich langsam ausgekämpft sein.
Diese für sich eigentlich ganz lesenswerten persönlichen Dramen" nehmen einen Großteil (etwa 2 Drittel!!!) des Buches ein und lassen, wie gesagt, nur wenig Raum für die im voraus so vielversprechende Story.
Darum baut sich auch die Spannung leider nur mäßig auf und erreicht längst nicht die enormen Höhen der beiden Vorgänger.
Ein Pluspunkt jedoch: Die erneut wirklich ausgezeichnete Lesung von Anna Fields. Sie versteht es auch diesmal wieder, die Charaktere jeden für sich einzigartig erscheinen zu lassen und gibt so dem lauen Plätschern" der Handlung wenigstens noch einen gewissen Kick.
FAZIT: Ganz nett, doch einen bleibenden Eindruck hat dieses Werk von Gerritsen bei mir nicht hinterlassen.
