I was overwhelmed by this beautifully crafted tale. Every figure came to life in my mind, such that I grieved as each character died. An extraordinary story of a 20th century I never knew but have always felt, about the cruelty of humans and the resilience of some, the warm abyss of true love and the banality of life, the realization that every single moment is important and that nothing matters in the end.
