Über diesen Titel
From number-one New York Times best-selling authors Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu comes the second book in the Eldest Curses series and a thrilling adventure for High Warlock Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood, for whom a death-defying mission into the heart of evil is not just a job; it’s also a romantic getaway. The Lost Book of the White is a Shadowhunters novel.
Life is good for Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood. They’re living together in a fabulous loft; their warlock son, Max, has started learning to walk; and the streets of New York are peaceful and quiet - as peaceful and quiet as they ever are, anyway.
Until the night that two old acquaintances break into Magnus’s apartment and steal the powerful Book of the White. Now Magnus and Alec will have to drop everything to get it back. They need to follow the thieves to Shanghai, they need to call some backup to accompany them, and they need a babysitter. Also, someone has stabbed Magnus with a strange magical weapon that is changing the very nature of his powers.
Fortunately, their backup consists of Clary, Jace, Isabelle, and newly minted Shadowhunter Simon. In Shanghai, they learn that a much darker threat awaits them. Magnus’s magic is growing unstable, and if they can’t stop the demons flooding into the city, they might have to follow them all the way back to the source - to the very realm of the dead.

After listening to the last two books in this universe ( The Red Scrolls of Magic and The Lost Book of the White) read by BD Wong.
The story is amazing as always, but the books read by him… My ears were bleeding.
He made it seem as if the characters were simple minded (read dumb) and even made Tessa seem a bitch (not sure if I should laugh or cry at this point) He made it out to me as if everyone was missing one half of their Brain! I’ve never once in my life written such a review, but it goes to the extent for me to type it down for you to understand how dreadful this was for me.
Trying to speak in accents, prolonging each word unnecessarily. I wanted to throw my phone against the wall and rip my hair out so many times. I won’t be listening to these books ever again as I have done so with the other ones many times. Which is unfortunate, because as said the Stories are amazing.
I really hope that he won’t be reading the next part of the eldest curses.
Dreadful performance, amazing story!

I have to say tho, that because of the time setting, the events are happening in, you weren’t as scared for the characters, as if it would happen now. You know everything will be fine. But still, I really wondered how. I mean ... it wasn’t obvious to me at all, wich I enjoyed very much. Also, some of the storylines we already know, made more sense at the end of this book.
Beautiful

Exciting story, awful reading

BD Wong is a great reader but IMHO he just missed to use the right voices for the characters and I am wondering why this did not disturb anybody (during production). I am a huge fan of the tv show and used to the voices of the actors, which I all really loved (e.g. Alec and Jace sound how they are, like strong young men and Magnus with his dramatically and/or funny statements sounds just adorable, Isabel sounds wonderfull - how she looks like:-)).
This could be my reason, but the protagonists almost all sound very strange for me here:
- Alec sounds here like an uncertain little boy
- Magnus is “old” but he is not aging since he was around 20 (I believe), he babbles always like a very drunken old man here
Sorry, but this is going even worse during romantic conversations between them, which was not only a little irritating...
- I can’t describe Jaces voice, but he does not sound very intelligent at all
- Simon sounds like he would have some serious mental problems
- I liked Ragnor’s British accent on the show, but here he sounds like a cranky old man
- Shinyun is very hard to understand and I can hardly believe this is the way how Koreans speak english
It's a shame no one told the narrator to change his way of character presentation, I am sure he could do it way better.
Anyway I still would by the audiobook again because of the story.
Great story - strange reading
