My new favourite book
What a spectacular audio book. I gasped. I laughed. I cried. I felt all the feelings that one does with a dynamic story. I felt like I was right there with all the characters during the entire epic tale. I'm now so very sad that the tale has ended and I must leave the world created with words.
Beyond the amazing characters, I enjoyed the descriptive scenery and the passage of time - a good 70 years of story.
I also absolutely adored the narrator's voice. Just perfect!!

Beautiful and complex story.
It took me some time to get into this book but it was well-worth the wait. Beautifully written novel with complex characters, who I did not always like (particularly the main character), but came to understand. Somewhat predictable at certain times but in a pleasing way. Narrator was fantastic.

Highly immersive, entertaining and informative saga
Wow - this book grabbed me from the beginning and took me on a 70-year whirlwind journey that had me laughing, crying, being angry. It starts dramatically with Catherine Goggan being thrown out of her village by the parish priest because of her pregnancy and follows her and her son Cyril’s journey in 7 year gaps. It’s cleverly done, well plotted, entertaining, moving and really informative - it put me in the head of a gay Irish man, allowing me to understand and empathize with his struggles and actions. It contains mainly flawed characters which are depicted with gentle humour and satisfying and believable plot resolutions. Highly recommend!

Flawless.

wonderful story beautifully told!
