Die Geschichte hat mich berührt. Da ich selbst das Mevlana Museum in Konya besucht habe, fand ich es sehr interessant die Geschichte zu hören, die teilweise dort spielt. Mich hat allerdings interessiert wer die 40Regeln aufgestellt hat. Woher kennt Sheims sie? Die Geschichte der Gegenwart hat mich leider nicht besonders gepackt. Aber etwas über das Leben und vermutlich die Denkweisen zu lernen wie es zu damaliger Zeit war, höchst spannend. Bei diesem Buch geht es nicht um die klassische Liebe. Es geht eher um die Liebe an sich, die uns auf verschiedenen Ebenen widerfahren kann. Irgendwann höre ich mir das Hörbuch ein zweites Mal an. Der Sprecher ist übrigens phänomenal. Tolle Aussprache und Betonung.

i just bought this book to listen to something, not for a particular reason. the reader is a bit dull at times but the content surprised me. very good book

changes the way you think

It's a little gem of a story full of interesting spiritual and philosophical ideas. I found myself taking notes on many passages. It is also what I would've hoped the Alchemist to be. You'll need an open mind and heart to enjoy it fully, listen to it while traveling!

Gorgeous story and philosophy

Elif Shafak manages to interweave the present (life of dissatisfied US housewife Ella) with the past (the meeting and friendship of the revered Sufi poets/ preachers Rumi and Shams el Tabriz in 13th century Konya (Turkey). It is expertly done and a testament to the author that the “olden times” were often more alive than the current one, possibly because the past is told from so many different viewpoints and angles whereas the present only from Ella (whom I found at times rather whiny - my only gripe with this book). I learnt so much and it sparked my curiosity around Rumi and Shams, Sufism and the whirling dervishes. There is also a lot to learn about love - 40 rules in fact. An interesting, well-told and mind-opening book. The narrator is excellent, and has a calm voice that manages to be distinct for each character.

First of all, the reader of this book is the best I ever listed to. Not just emotions are brought out so beautifully, but he created this signature voice for everyone in the book. The story itself, and I am a sucker for a really good love story, brings us two love stories that are so dear to my heart now. A must read /listen.

You will never be the same after reading this book. Mystic and charming, full of life lessons and so catching that you will never be able to stop reading it or listening. I really enjoyed reading it and would maybe read it again. If you are fun of the Alchemist of Paulo Cohelo, you will defunetly love this book too.
