Ich muss gleich sagen, dass ich Terry Pratchett über die Nomen kennen gelernt habe. Das kleine Volk hatte es mir absolut angetan und ich wollte sofort mehr von dem Autor lesen. Allerdings war die Scheibenwelt und ihre Bewohner damals wirklich nichts für mich. Und so ist es leider bis heute geblieben. Einmal von den Filmen abgesehen, die ich sehr gut fand. Umso glücklicher war ich, als ich auf ein weiteres kleines Volk gestoßen bin und mich über "Carpet People" als Audiobook her machen konnte.
Die Carpet People sind genauso genial, wie die Nomen. Die Welt des Teppichs, die unserer so ähnelt und doch so anders ist, hat mir sofort gefallen. Eine meiner Lieblingsszenen ist das Plateau, das sich aus unserer Perspektive als Münze heraus stellt. Großartige Idee und toll in die Geschichte eingeflochten.
Der Roman ist voller Witz, einem Hauch philosophischer Gedanken und viel Abenteuer.

Am Anfang musste ich mich etwas einhören. Was in Mitchelys Fall aber nur positiv gemeint ist. Seine Stimme ist so wechselhaft, voller Farbe, er spielt mit Akzenten, genauso, wie mit Lautstärke und der allgemeinen Art zu sprechen. Dem deutschen Hörpublikum würde ich als Vergleich Rufus Beck anführen, aber an dem habe ich mich inzwischen einfach schon ein bisschen 'abgehört'. Richard Mitchleys Figuren hatten gerade durch die Stimme jede ihren eigenen Charakter, die absolut zu meiner Vorstellung von Pratchetts Ideen passten. Und man hatte selbst als non-native-speaker nie wirklich Probleme, die Figuren auseinander zu halten. Ein Kunststück. Und... einfach wunderbar!
Wer Lust auf Helden hat, die nur ein wenig größer sind, als ein Staubkorn: LESEN! Oder noch am besten: HÖREN! :D
