Inhaltsangabe

January 1910. A journalist has been killed in a suspicious blaze. Everything points to a group of suffragettes, but the apparent culprit insists she is innocent.

When Lady Hardcastle receives a letter from a suffragette requesting her urgent help, the retired spy turned sleuth knows only she stands between an accused young woman and the gallows. Evidence at the scene makes Lizzie Worrel’s innocence difficult to believe, and with the police treating it as an open-and-shut case of arson, Lady Hardcastle faces a barrage of resistance as she tries to dig out the truth.

With her trusted maid and confidante, the formidable Flo, Lady Hardcastle sets off in pursuit of the truth as time runs out for the accused suffragette. Was she set up? And if so, is the real culprit a traitor to the cause - or part of a darker conspiracy?

Disappointed when it was over

Great as all the other Lady Hardcastle Mysteries. If you want to know what I think of the books in general, just have a look at my other reviews.
As all the other books this one remains a mystery until the lst line; it is hilarous, humorous, witty and the speaker is perfect. I love her voice and the way she impersonates the different characters.
This time a crime has been committed and a suffragette is under suspicion. Did she kill the journalist, her lover? Is there a political motive? Someone who wants to discredit the suffragette movement?
Read or listen and find out yourself.

Fantastic „cosy crime“ novel

I fell in love with the stories around Lady Hardcastle and Florence Armstrong from the very first audiobook and this one is no exception. For me they are a bit like chocolate - I’d love to consume them all at once but make myself save some for later so they last longer. And I love the narrator. She fits the story perfectly and it is a pleasure to listen to her.
I hope there are many more books in this series and I hope that Elizabeth Knowelden will continue to read them to us!

History and Mystery

I‘ve been a fan of Lady Hardcastle and Florence Armstrong since book one. When I found out the other day that there is a new audiobook out, I immediately purchased it. My current reading list is fairly long, but of course I made time to listen to this latest installment.
I was not disappointed. The story is well written, amusing, and with a lot of historical background, as usual.
Again, I felt as if I was there, trying to unravel the mystery. Here, you have it all: suffragettes, politics, corruption, and other criminal activities. We meet old friends and new ones, old enemies and unlikely alliances. Although I ‘m not usually a fan of long series, I look forward to the next case, because I’d love to return to the countryside with Lady H and Flo.
Elizabeth Knowelden once again delighted me with her narration.
