Über diesen Titel

As friends, the boisterous and brash American Beryl couldn't be less alike than the prim and proper British Edwina. But as sleuths in an England recovering from the Great War, they're the perfect match.

The year is 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.

For over three decades, Edwina Davenport has lived comfortably in Walmsley Parva, but the post-World War I bust has left her in dire financial straits and forced her to advertise for a lodger. When her long-lost school chum Beryl arrives on her doorstep - actually crashes into it in her red motorcar - Edwina welcomes her old friend as her new roommate.

But her idyllic hometown has a hidden sinister side, and when the two friends are drawn in, they decide to set up shop as private inquiry agents, helping Edwina to make ends meet and satisfying Beryl's thirst for adventure. Now this odd couple will need to put their heads together to catch a killer - before this sleepy English village becomes their final resting place.

Geschichte interessant, aber sie wird durch die Sprecherin außergewöhnlich! Teil 2 ist schon runter geladen.

Sehr unterhaltsam - großartige Sprecherin

Intelligent, smooth story, although I prefer deeper characterization of the protagonists.
Story was made special to me by the most gifted (and trained? and experienced?) narratress - is there such a word?
Great reading, anyway! I would give six stars if possible ;)

Nice Book

agatha christie is shouting out from every corner, but as vivid agatha reader once you have finished all her books... and you have to have something to indulge... this is among all the others to consider one of the best coming close to agatha.
reader is exceptionel!!! chapeau to her!

well done

Very generic, can be listened to while doing other things and missing half of the the content makes no difference to following the plot

Stereotypical plot probably written by gen AI

The story is very slow and often dull and about as realistic as a fairy tale - especially the two sleuths are not believable at all - and to make matters worse, they are not even very likeable. Add to that a range of supposedly British accents that is just atrocious and you‘ve got a package that is neither convincing nor in any way satisfying. I was hoping for more!

A bit lame

I wasn't expecting a literary thriller, but I certainly wasn't expecting a story so full of clichés and gender stereotypes, celebrating the good old days... All without any irony or at least a humorous wink at the genre as such. You can certainly listen to it - especially as Barbara Rosenblat does a decent job reading it.... but there is nothing in this story that has enriched my life..... So it is good for killing time, but for nothing else.
