What a pain to endure this reading… The text is - after 20 years - still or rather again most relevant but the reading is painfull, respectless and inappropriate due to the readers fairy tale like play-out of absolutely all the Afghan voices. How unfair to an respectful authour and to the intelligent and interested listener to overact and assign only „evil“, ugly voices (think witches or crule rulers in fairy tales FOR CHILDREN) to everyone (!) Afgan in the text. Very distracting, most irritating and underestimating the intelligence of a listener. The text itself can stand strong without this most inappropriate illustrative style of reading. If only Åsne Seierstad knew … It would have been a better choice from the publisher’s side to let the authour herself not only read the introduction but the whole book. NB! Please, read the book instead of listening to this!
