This book is great.
It has a clear goal, as well as a neat idea, and good structure. Books 2 and onward mostly meander on, but this first one is a lot of fun.

An amazing story, but stick to the first novel.

Nach so vielen (Hör)Büchern dachte ich man könne mich kaum noch überraschen, aber Vasily Mahanenko hat es geschafft.
Die Story hat mich sehr schnell mitgerissen. Noch dazu nimmt die Stärke jedes Teils sogar zu!
Der Sprecher macht seinen Job klasse und trägt sehr zur Atmospäre bei. Weiter so!

MMO Role Playing fantasy game with a virtual reality scifi background told in a great and gripping story. The excellent narrator adds to this for really good entertainment. This book had me listen attentively throughout and I can't wait to get the next one of the series

This book series was my introduction into the LITRPG genre. And is to this day my favorite book series. The Story and Jonathan Yen’s voice make this a pleasure.

Different and Great

This was my introduction to the LITRPG genre; I have now easily listened to 80 such books. And I still think it is one of the best. I even listend to the books 2 more times.
The characters are great, the word is interesting, the story is great and what I am missing in most of the other LITRPG books the characters are developing, facing real challenges and solve problems not only by luck or strength. Over the books, this deteriorates a bit, but by far not as much as with others.

So full endorsement. :-)

In addition to this, the narrator is perfect for the books. I especially love how he reads the dwarfs.

One of the best LITRPG books

Dropped after one hour ... so far the character has been stupid on top of stupid, and there is a gazillion of exposition and technical details that drown out possible story.
Also, since that book seems to place a lot of importants on the game mechanics they should at least sound like that could actually work out, which they don't.
How did this get so many high ratings?

So far I have read about a dozen litrpg books. I usually read heavy literature, with some space opera sci fi to relax in between. Litrpgs are very light reads. Often silly even and there is a ton of crap out there. But there are a few good ones (Dungeon Crawler Carl being a favorite of mine). THIS book is good if you like litrpg, ok if not. It is more rpg than most litrpgs i have read. There is not much character depth and the pace is a bit strange. But i enjoyed it all the same.

This was my first LitRPG novel, and since it seems relatively well regarded, I will probably not return to this genre. You must really like RPGs, and more – you must like somebody else telling you in great detail about their game, to enjoy this book. You get all the stats all the time, there is no drink of water that will leave you in suspense about how many points exactly the main character just gained. What you don't get is world-builidng, non-statistical characters, or an interesting story. The writing is serviceable but far from great.

The second star is purely for the narration by Jonathan Yen, which was quite good and can make you think you were listening to a better book.
