NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Cal Kestis leads the Stinger Mantis crew on an adventure set between Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the highly anticipated Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Cal Kestis has built a new life for himself with the crew of the Stinger Mantis. Together, Cal’s crew has brought down bounty hunters, defeated Inquisitors, and even evaded Darth Vader himself. More important, Merrin, Cere, Greez, and faithful droid BD-1 are the closest thing Cal has had to a family since the fall of the Jedi Order. Even as the galaxy’s future grows more uncertain by the day, with each blow struck against the Empire the Mantis crew grows more daring.

On what should be a routine mission, they meet a stormtrooper determined to chart her own course with the help of Cal and the crew. In exchange for help starting a new life, the Imperial deserter brings word of a powerful, potentially invaluable tool for their fight against the Empire. And even better, she can help them get to it. The only catch—pursuing it will bring them into the path of one of the Empire’s most dangerous servants, the Inquisitor known as the Fifth Brother.

Can the Imperial deserter truly be trusted? And while Cal and his friends have survived run-ins with the Inquisitors before, how many times can they evade the Empire before their luck runs out?

Kritikerstimmen

“Author Sam Maggs has managed to turn a tie-in novel that bridges the gap between two video games into one of the most romantic and riveting Star Wars books of all time. Jedi: Battle Scars blows every expectation out of the water for a thrilling and intimate tale of messy found family and finding your fire and purpose in the galaxy.”Dork Side of the Force

“Maggs is a strong writer and the story is incredibly compelling.”SlashFilm

“A perfect bridge from Fallen Order to Survivor . . . Battle Scars provides a fun and exciting new adventure for Cal & Co.”That Hashtag Show

“Maggs has absolutely captured the voices of the characters who populate this world.”Laughing Place

“The crew of Stinger Mantis is a motley bunch and writer Maggs plays on the best parts of their chemistry together while expanding each character’s story.”But Why Tho?

“It’s quite impressive how Sam Maggs managed to capture the exact feeling of playing a video game story through prose. . . . It does an excellent job of getting fans ready for what’s coming next.”Cinelinx

Die Charaktere sind gut geschrieben und das Buch gibt ihnen mehr Tiefe. Die Story ist etwas generisch und nicht wirklich ein Must-Read. Kann man sich geben, muss man aber nicht.

Okay

A nice story to give more depth to the crew of mantis. A must read for fans of Merrin.

Nice book to get ready for the game

Constant music and, even more so, the sound effects were really annoying.
Story and writing wasn't to my liking. Romance was too spicy for StarWars, same with all the psychological insight. It was kinda tiring.
Narration was great and also very much spot - on with portraying the characters which is not an easy job considering most of them are associated with actors/voice actors due to the game.

Book meh, performance great

Story ist eher durchschnittlich, aber guter Voice Actor

First off, this book was not at all what I expected (in a good way).
It's a fast-paced adventure story that kept me guessing and subverting my expectations throughout most of it, and I couldn't put the book down. (figuratively of course, as I was listening to the audiobook) It's also surprisingly spicy, though i won't tell you what characters are involved in that spice ;)
But it is not a collection of the adventures they're going through during the 5-year break between Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor.
It's a one-off adventure, however it is also formative for the crew moving forward as this book challenges them to actually talk about their own individual long and short-term goals.
The entire Mantis crew gets their time in the spotlight, we get a good look into their brains and learn about their motivations and perspective. The real main-character of this book however, is Merrin. It's her experience that is focused on mostly, her character that we learn the most about and, while this story is formative for the whole crew, it has the most influence on her character and development.
Which is great because she joined the Mantis crew so late in Jedi: Fallen Order, and we knew the least amount about her. (Also because she is awesome.)
This book accurately captures the feeling of the video game and makes me want to play it again (and even more makes me want to play as Merrin), and I can't wait for Jedi: Survivor.

Fast-paced, exciting and... Spicy?
