This book has an astonishing depth of characters, world-building and story background, rarely seen in the LitRPG genre. Game mechanics and statistics are mercifully low key, yet present where appropriate. The narrator does a great job to bring it all alive. Queen in the Mud can stand with the best of the genre and in some respects even surpass them, such as the Divine Dungeon series, my previous gold standard. I sincerely hope we will see more of this in the future.

Wie häufig bei LitRPG Hörbüchern ist der Anfang der Geschichte etwas langweilig. Es geht ungefähr ein Drittel bis knapp die Hälfte der Zeit um den Aufbau des Charakters und um das Überleben in der fremden Welt. Ich finde diesen Teil etwas trocken, da kaum Interaktionen mit anderen Charakteren stattfinden, aber das kann auch gut mein persönlicher Geschmack sein. Natürlich machen die Spielmechanik und die Statistiken das Genre aus, aber ich finde es besser, wenn sie etwas im Hintergrund stehen.
Später nimmt die Geschichte stark an Fahrt auf und wird wirklich spannend, es kommen einige wichtige Charaktere dazu und eine Zeitreise macht das ganze etwas komplexer. Die Figuren sind sympathisch und entwickeln sich während dem Verlauf der Geschichte.
Also, es lohnt sich dran zu bleiben und ich werde mir auf jeden Fall den zweiten Teil holen, sobald er raus kommt :)
