This book is as close as one can get to stepping back into the Persian Empire without the aid of a Tardis.

Llewellyn-Jones schreibt (und liest) eine wundervolle Abhandlung über die Achämenidische Epoche Irans.

Ich hab es zur Vorbereitung auf eine Prüfungsleistung über die Parther gehört, da ich in persischer Geschichte nur Basiswissen hatte. Nun hab ich ein gutes Verständnis für die Mentalität und die Probleme der Zeit und kann mit meinem Wissen über das Seleukidische besser den Aufstieg der Parther nachvollziehen.

Wenn der Autor Abzweigungen in andere Bereiche macht, sind sie a) immer nachvollziehbar und b) findet er stets den Faden zurück.

Gute Englischkenntnisse sind obligatorisch, Zugang zu historischen/archäologischen Tools (DNP/Arachne etc.) nützlich.
