Am relevantesten
I greatly enjoyed the author's 'ambitious exploration of the story of a nation' (that's how the editors call it). Any other narrative of this cultural, political and technological breeding ground throughout several Millenia, would probably become boring to anyone trying to find a 'quick fix' of Iran's recent history.

The real beauty of this book is about the author's personal relationships with some of the recent incumbents. And his politically informed, but largely historical view of these invaluable experiences.

As a non-Farsi speaker, I found it particularly rewarding to be taught some of the relevant Farsi terms, including the author's care to repeat their translations redundantly, throughout the text.

Overall: Highly recommended!

Too many Details, doch ich vermisse den breiteren Blick, die innerstaatliche Dynamiken in der Bevölkerung ( es geht gefühlt nur um Regierungen). Vor lauter Namen gehen diese eventuell unter. Ebenso das Miteinander der unterschiedlichen Bevölkerungsgruppen, auch (und das war interessant) unter Einbezug von Geographie, Ökologie etc.) Ich breche jetzt ab, denn zum Verstehen der aktuellen Situation und wie sie sich aus der Geschichte entwickelt hat hilft mir das hier nicht gut
