    Inhaltsangabe

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Once Upon a River, written by Diane Setterfield and read by Juliet Stevenson.

A dark midwinter’s night in an ancient inn on the Thames. The regulars are entertaining themselves by telling stories when the door bursts open on an injured stranger. In his arms is the drowned corpse of a little child.

Hours later the dead girl stirs, takes a breath and returns to life.

    Is it a miracle?

    Is it magic?

Or can it be explained by science?

An exquisitely crafted multilayered mystery brimming with folklore, suspense and romance as well as with the urgent scientific curiosity of the Darwinian age, Once Upon a River is as richly atmospheric as Setterfield’s best seller The Thirteenth Tale.

definitely one of the best books I ever read!

I wasn't expecting this to be one of the greatest books I ever read, but there it is! I couldn't stop reading, was thinking about it the whole time, about the characters, their stories, story telling per se, the mystery of the child's appearance and everything else. It is really amazing and I would totally re-read it!

An ok book but nothing amazing

We follow the life of a community around the river Thames for a year some time in the Victorian era. It is read (or heard) easily, but it is nothing amazing. I think I will forget this book quite soon...
I found it as a recommendation in the category fantasy, but it was quite disappointing as a fantasy book. Wrong category. I would probably have better opinion if it was under simple novel or even mystery, but definitely not fantasy.

    Wundervolle Geschichte

Die Geschichte und die Sprecherin waren absolut großartig! Unbedingt zu empfehlen.
Spannend und trotzdem ruhig - eine besondere Balance.
