Über diesen Titel

Oliver was a very minor mage. His familiar reminded him of this several times a day. He only knew three spells, and one of them was to control his allergy to armadillo dander.

His attempts to summon elementals resulted in nosebleeds, and there is nothing more embarrassing than having your elemental leave the circle to get you a tissue, pat you comfortingly, and then disappear in a puff of magic. The armadillo had about wet himself laughing.

He was a very minor mage. Unfortunately, he was all they had.

Ich liebe Kingfishers Schreibstil und auch diese Geschichte hat mich wieder sehr beeindruckt und berührt. Einfach nur schön. volle Empfehlung.

I liked it though I think it is better suited for children. I enjoyed it none the less. I liked the pacing, if it was longer I might have been bored but the way but it is just right. it is a bit weird overall but it is creative. if you like structured magic systems you might mot though. this magic system is very all over the place but that makes it very fun.
I didn't quire like the narrators style if reading. it wasn't bad, but not my style and that takes away from the experience.
the overall message: fight with what you got. small powers can do many things is really nicely showed. I didn't need the armadillo to tell me but again, I guess the book is better suited for 8 year olds.

Really liked the way how the hero is evolving throughout the story and how the companions influence his journey.
I like the author a lot.

A hero with heart and unsuspected abilities

I loved all the other stories by T. Kingfisher so much but did not get any connection to this one. Might be me - others liked it. So many open questions. E.g, why did the other mages not loose their magic the last times? The story itself - hero with small abilities - was so much more interestingly told in “The art if defensive baking” by the same author. Is this story really by T Kingfisher?
