    Inhaltsangabe

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard book one, by Rick Riordan, read by Christopher Guetig.

Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother's mysterious death, he's lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits. One day he's tracked down by an uncle he's never met - who tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god. The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday.

To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.

I would love to read this!

I have been a fan of Ricks writings since the very first PJ book, and love his idea of constantly expanding his universe of storytelling. This one is no exeption. While at first sceptical with the whole nordic setting I now came to love the story with its new characters and mythology. Even though gradualy this book also manages to further move to a more adult version of storytelling (still for teens but with gradualy more violence that does serve a purpose... i mean when fighting monsters and gods with blades, spears and all manners of dangerous items, it always bothered me that people would not die or at least get injured). It does that in a similar way then the third trials of appolo book.

The one critisism I have to state is that the speaker in this audio book is not that great. I say this of cause compared to the speakers in Riordans other books. While doing a great job when it comes to voice acting, his basic voice is not that nice. without comparison this would probably not be a problem but after for examle listening to the speaker from trials of appolo it just feels like a downgrade.

verdict: awesome story that is good to listen to but great to read!

Die Story ist definitiv was für Fantasyfans, die auch ein bisschen schmunzeln wollen. Der Sprecher ist absolut klasse!

Nice story but the Narrator isn't the best

The story was good, likeable characters, exciting new world, I personally always had a love for norse mythology.
It had a few ex machina moments, plot holes and stereotypes (why bother writing a hijabi if you're gonna stigmatise her family and let her take her scarf of every 2 minutes) but I think these things might improve over the next few books as "pilot" books aren't always the best. I'm still excited for it. Loving Magnus mature Humor and the characters Blitz and Hearth a lot tho.
A big minus to me was that the narrators voice was really annoying to me and lacked nuance/ emotion. Maybe I'm bias after listening to trials of apollo with Robby Daymond (huge recommendations, great books fantastic Narrator) , but it was kinda hard to endure sometimes. + the sound got messed up a few times in the final few chapters, with obvious cuts in the audio and parts with different sound quality, which was very confusing and frankly kinda sad to see that this book don't get the same treatment as other riordan books just bc they're not of the main storyline/ Greek pantheon.
All in all still a good book, I'm mainly disappointed with the Audio

    Good story

Good story but terrible reader. I'm sorry but he just can't read. The emotion was completely lost to him. It's almost painful to listen to.

Eta. It's a bit better if you speed it up a little.
