(Unfortunately, yes.) Does it mean finding community among the queer kids at the meet-and-greets after K&T's shows? (Fortunately, yes.) Does it include a new relationship with Kaivan, the drummer for the band opening for K&T on tour? (He hopes so.) But when The Label finds out about Hunter and Kaivan, it spells trouble—for their relationship, for the perfect gay boy Hunter plays for the cameras, and, most importantly, for Hunter himself. I love the way the narrative is built as a text collage. That changes the perspective regularly and gives a broader horizon to this coming of age tale. (Which is not a coming out story, luckily, instead the focus has moved way beyond that. Making things more adult.) The multiple speakers are great, and best of all: it’s not all clear cut from the start, there are various real surprises, and you don’t know till the end how it will end for Hunter and his love interests. Plural. I enjoyed this audio book, from start to finish. And only wish the drag queen activist had made a comeback somewhere. There are no “spicy” scenes, but I didn’t miss them … that doesn’t mean that sex isn’t a big topic though. But it’s looked at in a more fundamental questioning way, less to arouse readers. Makes for a nice change in the MM Romance universe.
