He has helped me a lot making sense of the harder parts of my life.
The clarity and strength of his findings, and the deep truth he underlines with his self awareness give me a lot of strength to work on myself.
I am happy to say that I am myself. I am not substance addicted, but have other more socially accepted addictions. I am very thankful for the stories of the people that allowed Mate to share them.
You all have helped me a lot!

I find it  too bad they are not able to be integrate the chapter titles at penguin, but only section numbers.
This would make it far easier to revisit important chapters .
This is why I reduced two stars for the speaker.
The speaker himself is genius in his part.

Dr. Gabor Matè is such an important figure these days. For he has a tramandous heart and understandig like none I've heard. Words can not describe. This book is a masterpiece! And Daniel did a great job, underlining his father's work. Great match.

Ich fand es extrem berührend, diese Einblicke in das Leben von Schwer Abhängigen zu bekommen und gleichzeitig meine eigene Süchte zu sehen. Alle Begründungen und Erklärungen geben am Ende vollständig Sinn 🙏🏽 ich war teilweise sehr emotional und würde es jedem ans Herz legen

Da weiss ich gar nicht wo ich beginnen soll mit meiner Empfehlung. Nur vermeintlich geht es i diesem Buch um Abhängigkeit, wie man sie für gewöhnlich versteht. Es geht um etwas viel grösseres und die Worte, die der Autor gefunden hat, das zu beschreiben und es für uns zugänglich zu machen... unglaublich.

Nebenbei erfährt man auch alles, was es zum Thema Abhängigkeit zu sagen gibt.

Selten habe ich ein Buch gehört / gelesen, welches mich so nachhaltig beeindruckt hat. Ich möchte von vorn beginnen, mitschreiben und mich weiter informieren.

Unbedingt lesen.

Wunderbare Analyse von Suchtverhalten und seinen Ursachen. Ich wünschte jeder Politiker, und eigentlich jeder Mensch, würde dieses Buch lesen. So viel Leid auf dieser Welt wäre vermeidbar.

Dieses Buch hat das Potenzial die Welt zu verändern.
Eine gerechtere Welt lebt vom Mitgefühl und Integration margninalisierter Menschen, nicht von Hass und institutioneller Gewalt ihnen gegenüber.
Wer einmal am Rande der Gesellschaft gelebt hat, weiß wie leicht es ist, durch das System zu fallen und wie viel Ablehnung einem begegnet, selbst wenn man nur Cannabis konsumiert, ist man schon Untermensch.

Auch in Deutschland krankt das Gesundheitssystem immer mehr am Kommerz, das Leid tragen oftmals völlig unverschuldet die Menschen, die Pech gehabt haben, ein gewalttätges oder vernachlässigendes Elternhaus, Schicksalsschläge in viel zu jungen Jahren.

Demokratie und Menschenrechte dürfen nicht mehr länger Spielbälle eines kapitalistischen und auf Ausbeutung aufgebauten Systems sein.
Oder um es mit Rousseau zu sagen: "Demokratie existiert dort wo niemand so reich ist, dass er den anderen kaufen kann und niemand so arm, dass er sich verkaufen muss".

Dieses Buch liefert wissenschaftlich fundiert und spirituell bereichert eine Studie des menschlichen Geistes und ein Menschenbild, wie sie so noch viel zu wenig verbreitet ist.
Es lässt auf bessere Welten hoffen.
