A junkie lies dead in an Edinburgh squat, spreadeagled, cross-like on the floor, between two burned-down candles, a five-pointed star daubed on the wall above.

Just another dead addict - until John Rebus begins to chip away at the indifference, treachery, deceit and sleaze that lurks behind the facade of the Edinburgh familiar to tourists.

Only Rebus seems to care about a death which looks more like a murder every day, about a seductive danger he can almost taste, appealing to the darkest corners of his mind...

Loved it. Good story throughout the entire book to the end. How much truth is in it I wonder? Good narrator.

Another good novel

I liked this story. Good performance made it really live. One more book to advice

Marvelous

I read the novels ages ago and have become a great fan of Ian Rankin‘s Rebus stories. However, over the years everything‘s become sort of a blur that’s why I‘m listening to the audio versions now.
Not being a native speaker I celebrate the Scottish accent of the speaker, which makes listening so much more enjoyable.
I think Rankin once said his early novels were flawed and immature, but I love them anyway. 😊

Brushing up my memory
