Well read. The story is a bit unrealistic but fun if you can accept that.

It's a solid British whodunit and as such still very enjoyable, but you have to listen to it as kind of a document of its time because it's full of sexist and homophobic language.

Auf welchen Platz würden Sie The Man with a Load of Mischief auf Ihrer Hörbuch-Bestenliste setzen?

? Somewhere in the top 25. But I have many :o)

Was wäre für andere Hörer sonst noch hilfreich zu wissen, um das Hörbuch richtig einschätzen zu können?

I could not agree less (respectfully...) with the listener who did not like Steve Wests performance here, I love it. Maybe this is just an example how taste can be different. I like his performance in acting all the different players accents (which are supposed to be far from Oxford...) and will be looking for more of his reads.

The story is a great beginning to a series for me. While not new, it is a new find for me and by now I have been through the first three books and am getting more and more "hooked".

A clear recommendation to all who like English crime stories and all their weird (sorry, interesting) characters.

The first Richard Jury-Story is one of my favorites. I somehow liked the reading, although the pronunciation sometimes didn't seem to fit, it felt like being interrupted. Or rather like the reader just couldn't catch the atmosphere. The different voices were ok but not exactly necessary.

Der erste und einer der besten Jury-Krimis, gute Story, fabelhaft gelesen, gerade auch für Nicht-Muttersprachler

Hübscher Krimi, very British gelesen

I would have liked to buy this whole series but I have no patience with unintelligent male readers trying to impersonate female voices in such a ridiculous, caricaturing way.
Besides, Tim West is sporting a marked American accent, and while I acknowledge that Martha Grimes is an American herself, she is widely acclaimed for her perfect rendering of traditional British society. The higly cultivated Inspector Jury and his friend the aristocratic Melrose Plant should be rendered in faultless Oxford English.
As if these faults weren`t enough, this reader delivers all his sentences in one same monotonous phrase melody, rather like an automaton or a not too bright first year student.
I am dumping it now after four chapters. Why suffer unnecessarily when the books are available on Kindle for a few euros? I want to read the first 6-8 of the series, which are always named as her best. After that she seems to be losing much of her wit (or getting careless maybe?)

Die eigentliche Stimme des Erzählers ist sehr angenehm. Schlimm wird es, wenn er versucht, andere Personen zu personifizieren: für Frauen und Homosexuals benutzt er die gleiche näselnde unerträgliche Stimme, die es mir unmöglich macht, dieses Buch zu Ende zu hören. Schade, da die Inspektor Jury Bücher zu meinen Lieblingsbüchern gehören
