Great story, great speaker.
If it was possible, I'd give Zainab Jah 10 stars. She is a brilliant speaker that made all the characters and the country become alive before my inner eyes.
The story gives the listener great insight on a - from a European standpoint- rarely treated part of history. It is touching but it doesn't leave you devastated with human tragedy, pain or cruelty. It is very well told.

Can’t let go
One of the most beautiful stories I have ever read / heard. History blends with fiction and creates a very emotional journey through an Africa troubled by war, hate, love and hope. I couldn’t stop listening to this book.

Intensiv
Absolut hörenswerte Geschichte, sowohl aus historischer als erzählerischer Sicht. Kein Strich zu viel, kein Charakter zu wenig. Berührend ohne einen Hauch von Romantisierung. Unglaublich gut gelesen.

Grausam!
Dieses Horbach ist sicherlich historisch interessant. Aber wer nicht bereit ist, sich die Grausamkeiten eines Krieges im Detail anzuhören, sollte das Buch nicht wählen.

Unbedingt zu empfehlen
Eine ausgezeichnet geschriebene, aufwühlende Geschichte. Ich wusste nicht viel über Nigeria, das Buch hat es geschafft, meinen Blick zu weiten und mich emotional zu berühren, Großartig vorgelesen.

Amazing
It took me a little while to get into the book, as it starts slow, with a lot of very detailed descriptions. But eventually that eye for detail made the people feel so real, I still think about them, as if I actually knew them. Beautiful and sad, it deserves all the accolades it got.

Will definitely leave you in awe.
The author takes you soul hostage and plays with it from start to finish. You gaze at human complexity and the bit of evil inside everyone of us. You don't know if you should love or hate characters, you never know what to do with the imaginations she plants in you. Amazing book.

Großartig!
Ein vielschichtiger Einblick in die nigerianische Geschichte, wunderbar vielstimmig gelesen. Man wird hineingesogen in diese hoffnungsvolle Zeit und erlebt Entstehung und Fall Biafras multiperspektivisch mit.
