Über diesen Titel
When ghostwriter Maz Amani inherits a house from an uncle he’s never heard of, he offers heartfelt thanks to the universe, packs up his car, his cat, and his skepticism about mysterious uncles leaving all their worldly goods to unknown nephews, and high-tails it to a small town halfway to the Oregon coast.
Anything would be better than week after week of couch surfing his way around Portland. Even if the alleged house is a rundown shack ridden with termites, spiders, and—shudder—rats, he’ll deal. Because hey, he owns a house!
And when his legacy turns out to be a pristine Queen Anne beauty with nary a termite, spider, or rat in sight, he’s ready to stand the universe unlimited vodka shots.
Except not so fast.
Because instead, his house is ridden with something a little more on-brand for a place called Ghost…
©2024 E.J. Russell (P)2025 E.J. RussellAvi and Oren are dead. They are dead long before the first chapter even starts, and them being dead is the catalyst for everything else happening at all. Still, I can't help grieving for those fictional characters who were on the verge of making life as perfect as it ever gets, only to have everthing ripped away from them literally days before it could come true.
The main character is very lovable (as are almost all of the characters, honestly), and he's very real in his thinking and acting. that means that this a good book, but it also makes it that much harder to endure the vast emotions it inspires.
The mystery as it is wasn't honestly much of a mystery at all, there were no true plot twists, I could see the ending coming from pretty early on; but there was doubt sown in between, and at times I thought I might be wrong.
This was not boring at any turn, I would absolutely recommend it, and I know most people don't feel as intensely with their characters as I tend to do, so if you're fine reading about grief, this will not get you as emotional as it does me.
All in all, I'm just happy I got to listen to this. 10/10 narration as usual by Greg Boudreaux (I like this narrator a lot).
