That is until the abnormalities begin and more gates than usual appear around the city. A Big Baddie has decided he wants revenge. And while Nyssa is more than happy to sit aside while he attacks the three major factions of shifters, witches, and mages, the moment it becomes personal, all bets are off.
If there is one thing Nyssa remembers from the scattered fragments of her past, it's how to kill. She's determined to make him regret crossing her. She doesn't care if the city burns to the ground, it won't stop her revenge. The real question is: Will she burn with the city, or will she be the one left standing among the ashes?

badly written protagonist
The author seemingly wanted the cake and eat it too. The protagonist flips from being in big danger to overwhelmingly powerful extremly fast without any in-world reason for it, it's very bad writing.
An example: She has a fight, then the opponent leaves and she stays vigilant for quite a while before believing that he really left, the whole scene is written in a way wich suggests that she can go on and is still in fighting condition, but in the next sentence when she leaves, she can't even walk straight anymore, let alone fight seriosly.
In one sentence she is strong and has everything under control, but in the next sentence the situation is dire and everything is bad.
Situations like that or the other way around happen all the time and it really takes away the believeability of the protagonist and the plot.
And then there is this thing inside the protagonist that the author is trying to set up as some ultimate weapon kind of thing, but there are quite a lot of situation where she nearly dies and nothing happens even though it's clear that she could use this secret weapon hers.
Settings, world building and personalities are all interesting but the bad writing style is very unpleasant and weakens the whole story to such a degree that I couldn't finish the book.
