As usual a great story by Helen Harper. She always comes up with a twist or something new so I never have the feeling to read yet another lotr as it often happens reading fantasy stories.

I am very sorry to say that I've been struggling with the narrator throughout the whole book. Even though she's great with different accents and manages well with different voices (her natural voice is lovely), the pronounciations of the t's and k's (even d's sounded like t's) at the end of words had me flinch every single time. It sounded like she tried to speak as perfekt as humanly possible which had to effect that it sounded strained. Sometimes I could hear her relax in the story which was great and let me relax as well until she remembered which had me back to flinching. It's a shame because I think she could become one of my favourite narrators if she wouldn't try so hard and just relax a little. Much love.

The story is very captivating with a strong female MC and an unexpected plot twist at the end. Looking forward to book zwo!
The narration is ok, but the male charactors sound in parts a bit strange (too high).

Supernatural murder mystery

The narrator is maybe just not my cup of tea but to me it sounds quite monotonous…I keep on listening because I know the author and her work is always good (highlands series and the Mackenzie stuff at least) but I wish I was reading the book and not listening to it 🙉

unfortunately I can not review the story as the voice was just awful... childish and sounded like a 1st grade teacher reading a story to 4 year old. I tried to battle through but the voice just made me cringe.... however reading the book was much better

First off: I really enjoyed the performance. Easy to listen to and just a joy.
The story is a difficult thing for me. I certainly enjoyed listening, but it's nothing groundbreaking. The MC seems to be a very well rounded, interesting character, but too many things are too obvious.
She "undies" in a ball of flame? even by the end of the book, we officially don't know what she is. Paired with the cover, that's just ridiculous.
The head honcho of the vampires helps her out and is intrigued by her, but she has a boyfriend? Well, I don't want to spoil anything, but my reaction was basically "Duh."
the author DID try to give vampires a new twist by giving them a lifespan of around 150 years and not making them immortal. They CAN go out during the day and they only need to drink blood around once a month. so... basically they aren't vampires. I understand, if you think the trope is boring, but then invent something new and don't call them vampires.
All in all I had some nice entertainment while doing household stuff, but there are just so many better stories out there to spend your time and money on.
