Über diesen Titel

From BSFA award-winning author Gareth L. Powell comes the first in a new epic sci-fi trilogy exploring the legacies of war.

The sentient warship Trouble Dog was built for violence, yet following a brutal war, she is disgusted by her role in a genocide. Stripped of her weaponry and seeking to atone, she joins the House of Reclamation, an organization dedicated to rescuing ships in distress. When a civilian ship goes missing in a disputed system, Trouble Dog and her new crew of loners, captained by Sal Konstanz, are sent on a rescue mission.

Meanwhile, light years away, intelligence officer Ashton Childe is tasked with locating the poet, Ona Sudak, who was aboard the missing spaceship. What Childe doesn't know is that Sudak is not the person she appears to be. A straightforward rescue turns into something far more dangerous, as Trouble Dog, Konstanz, and Childe find themselves at the center of a conflict that could engulf the entire galaxy. If she is to save her crew, Trouble Dog is going to have to remember how to fight ...

Everything is in 1st person, I can take it or leave that but it leaves things sometimes disjointed if not carefully linked and it's not really well done
The biggest problems are
1. sentient space ships are fine but then relatively incompetent no need to have human Captains actually doing sone flying and then inability to simply manage stabilisation and send sensors out at the same time.. subroutines level of ease.
2. after space ship combat, contrails of smoke and vapour...in Space??? sorry?? space is space. keep this real
3. radiation problems after a torpedo explosion then ignored , ..humans are now immune??? and then the ship can sink into a sun's corona with no problems...
4. too many incompetent people, eg a Doctor who is not even 1st year medical.student level and a cry baby.. sorry.. ridiculous
5. in 'higher' dimensional space at first ships could here échos of conversations only then suddenly a few chapters later no problem ships to ship communication...

In summary, there are some good ideas but ruined by inconsistencies and the author's inability to merge high tech sentient combat capable space ships and its crew.
