Über diesen Titel

Not three months ago, I'd been a daughter of the Ice Crown, the lands of snow and ice. Everything I had, everything I was, existed in a tiny world of its own, a single snowflake in a snowstorm. And then, like a candle blown out by careless lips, all of it had been extinguished in an instant.

The kingdom is under threat. A secret, desperate plot to change the course of history has been hatched in dark rooms. Aeryn, a young student war mage from an isolated land of ice, has the powerful gift of fire. To save her world, she must draw around her a small group of fellow mages and allies at Windhall University. At her side is the beautiful healer in training, Lyse, who holds her heart. In front of her is nothing but questions, fears, and impossible decisions.

Conspirators are everywhere, shifting shadows that she can barely see. The longer it takes for Aeryn to find the answers, the more people will die. Her choices might cost her everything. Does she have the strength to do what needs to be done? Can Aeryn protect a kingdom she may not even want to save?

This is one of those stories, the whole time the protagonists is just along for the ride, everything that she does and/or learns is for absolutely nothing except when she makes some deal with a god at the end in the absolutely most cliché way it's possible, by agreeing to a deal without listening to the terms. These stories are insanely frustrating since it sends the message that everything ppl do is irrelevant except they make some deal with a deity.

Then we have the way they tried to warn ppl about the assassination, that was very unintelligent and unimaginative, there would've been so many more ways they could've tried instead of the kid that tried to kill someone because he lost at a game.

I listened to 2 whole books of constant bad luck, nothing in this story felt organic, every time something happened it came from outside and the protagonist and friends reacted. That she didn't make the connection from the black magicians to the north men the 1st time she heard that illegal north men were in the city is ridiculous, she had seen the bad guys together with the only legal north men in the whole town, how can one not make the connection. This was a very annoying story and the end didn't justify the whole ordeal in any way.
