Bryony and her sisters have come down in the world. Their merchant father died trying to reclaim his fortune and left them to eke out a living in a village far from their home in the city. But when Bryony is caught in a snowstorm and takes refuge in an abandoned manor, she stumbles into a house full of dark enchantments. Is the Beast that lives there her captor or a fellow prisoner? Is the house her enemy or her ally? And why are roses blooming out of season in the courtyard? Armed only with gardening shears and her wits, Bryony must untangle the secrets of the house before she - or the Beast - are swallowed by them.

A very interesting and funny twist on the old fairytale. Beaty didn't seemed to have fared quite as well as we where meant to believe, but luckily Bryony is a lot more grounded.

This was such a quick and fun read! Fast paced and I enjoyed the banter. I had to get used to the narrator's male voice, but that didn't take too long.

It's a lovely retelling of an old story for modern times. However the reader doesn't to it justice. She's speeding through it, often without any emotion or proper intonation. I had to listen on 0.85 speed just to be able to follow. Too bad, the narration really spoils the book.

I never particularly liked this fairy tale..

Die Geschichte von der Schönen und dem Biest sehr schön geschrieben und die Sprecher haben eine angenehme Stimme. Trotz bekannter Geschichte nicht langweilig. Empfehlenswert.

Beauty hat es nicht geschafft aber Bryony hat Schwestern und eine Gartenschere! Das hat Spaß gemacht.

Loved this! The narration is good, the story goes in an unexpected direction so it’s still interesting. Mystery and romance elements. Highly recommend!

Cozy Beauty and the Beast retelling

Bryany and Roses is above all a celebration of gardening and a loveletter to the more useful/ less showy plants. Though for obvious reasons the story is very similar to the original and at times somewhat predictable it has some very surprisingly elements. Even if Bryany can be really quite stupid sometimes. But her point of view and narration is great fun and turns the story into a very enjoyable book.
