Joe Abercrombie's Best Served Cold is a bloody and relentless epic of vengeance and obsession in the grand tradition, a kind of splatterpunk sword 'n sorcery Count of Monte Cristo, Dumas by way of Moorcock . . . The battles are vivid and visceral, the action brutal, the pace headlong, and Abercrombie piles the betrayals, reversals, and plot twists one atop another to keep us guessing how it will all come out. This is his best book yet
Overall this is an immediately rewarding experience. There are reveals in the final third that are unexpected yet satisfyingly logical . . . Best Served Cold? Modern fantasy doesn't get much better than this

Wie hat Ihnen Steven Pacey als Sprecher gefallen? Warum?

Steven Pacey is the most amazing narrator I have ever had the great pleasure listening to. He effortlessly gives unique voices to dozens of characters, finds the perfect pitch for every mood in the book and adds immense additional quality to any book he narrates. I am indebted to him for countless hours of great entertainment!

Simply glorious

Der Autor versteht es eine realistische, düstere Atmosphäre aufzubauen in der sich seine Charaktere schlüssig und gut gezeichnet bewegen. Auch wenn die Storyline um die Thematik "Rache" nun nicht gerade das Rad neu erfindet, so macht sie dennoch Spaß.

Intesting stay with a lot of twists and surprises. But be warned it is brutal and without mercy. A book for grown people. I like it a lot if good people are not jut and always good. Oh what a good reading in this case.
And by the way it is read in a very good manner. I love it

Not for the fainted heart

Perfect Characters, flawed but consistent humans in a world that doesn't care,
Perfect Worldbuilding and a perfect arc.
The overall war of the wizards and their sideshow machinations as beautifully incorporated as the characters arcs all going full circle.
The way the story twists your perception bit by terrible bit... And the meta position at the end... Do you think you deserve better?
Damn I love abercrombie.
And 4 books into my third run of all hsibworks, this is still my favorite book.
Shivers my second most favorite character arc just after thorn bathu.
Also he is as of now, the only one in all of his books.

I really loved this novel! I've got more than once hitted by surprise while I listened to this amazing story. Full of humour, action and most importantly understandable "real" protagonists, is this grimdark fantasy world a wonderful experience l enjoyed so much. The speaker made this novel even more lively. His different tunes of voice and power is remarkable.
