Benjamin Franklin is recognized as one of the founding fathers of the United States of America. In the history of the United States he is named for his transcendence in the politics of the 18th century; his signature is found on the Declaration of Independence of the United States. He also excelled in creative fields as a scientist, inventor, editor and printer of various newspapers of his time.

Franklin began writing his autobiography in 1771, a manuscript that he would interrupt and resume at various points in his life. Among its pages, he shares episodes of his childhood, his youth between America and Europe, detailed experiences as a printer, personal and family life, his participation in the War of Independence and politics, but this work is especially valued for the intimate voice that shares his reflections, close readings and questions as one of the representatives of the political ideals of his time.
