Although much of what is criticised by Crawford makes sense, not everything is intrinsically caused by AI, but in the way it is used. Some material, like privacy, is interesting, some other reads like a pointless rant. See chapter 4, that repeatedly goes on an irrelevant tangent touching fashionable social themes. Her work is unlikely to steer policymakers, let alone survive the test of time.

Unfortunately, the author reveals her philosophical framework only in the very last part of the book (coda): Sympathetic for the theories and recommendations of Club of Rome and antipathetic of the capitalist system and its beneficiaries.
With this in mind the whole book makes a bit more sense. However, I fail to see any core message other than a very generic and broad criticism of globalisation and capitalism and a highly apocalyptic view of new technologies like AI.
Reminds me of what Alex Epstein says about the climate activists: Always be careful if someone only tells you one side (usually the negative one) of the story.
