Justice for all

Breq - the soldier who used to be a spaceship - is serving the emperor she swore to destroy. She's been given her own warship, her own crew, and ordered to the only place in the galaxy she would have agreed to go: to Athoek Station, to protect the family of the lieutenant she murdered in cold blood. Athoek was annexed by the Empire some 600 years ago, and by now everyone is fully 'civilised'. Or should be - but everything is not as tranquil as it appears. Old divisions are still troublesome, Athoek Station's AI is restless, and it looks like the alien Presger might have taken an interest in what's going on. With no guarantees that their interest is benevolent.

well, the story is being spun in an other direction. it's nice but not as great as before.

All great

Ann Leckie’s engaging trilogy is equally exciting as it is thought provoking. She offers a unique perspective on what it means to be human and humane. I love her writing.

Gripping and highly relevant

While the unfolding mystery of who the protagonist in the first novel is added great tension to a book tightly woven with a good plot, world building and culture, as well as poignant internal dialogue, this book reads more like a cheap Jane Austin. It’s really just one giant melodrama of aristocrats and their colonial subjects stranded in a solar system or rather a Southern tea plantation and the author repeating the woes of colonialism like it’s the first time we’ve ever heard about it. The plot is pendantic; the dialogue tiresome and the direction of the book, well, directionless. The feeling of a grand epic unfolding one gets in the first book is lost in space, or the tea leaves in the bottom of a cup as it were.

Not nearly as good as Book 1
