Über diesen Titel

Sistina awakened after millennia of dormancy, her memories in tatters and born anew. Residing in the ruins of an ancient city, she finds herself drawn into a war between two elven nations and the slaver kingdom of Kelvanis when she rescues a princess from slavery. With her domain containing hints of forgotten knowledge, Sistina becomes a dungeon, stronghold, and source of hope all at once. And perhaps, just perhaps, she could finally find love in her new life.

This is a dark fantasy lesbian romance, with a focus on the dark fantasy.

As a reader and listener of the first version with the narration of Gabriella Cavallero, I am very pleased with this revision and the narration of Sarah Beth Goer. Do not get me wrong I loved the first one and I made sure to save the version but Sarah Beth Goer's narration has just the better kind of voice and emotion into it for this story in my opinion.

Narration aside, the story is well written, captivating and never gets boring even in the little slower parts, Unlike other "Dungeon Core" stories this one focuses more on the character's interactions and relationships than on the "base building" part and it is not presented in a gamer system fashion which is refreshing. And to be honest this is a major reason I like the works of Benjamin Medrano, since all his stories are without such game-like mechanics and it makes the stories all the more intriguing and immersive.

Wonderfull Revision in Emotion and Narration

The trigger warning in the first 5 minutes of the audiobook applies to a dozen chapters in this book. To the point that I started wondering if violating women's consent is the main purpose of the enemy kingdoms existence. Furthermore, almost all mentioned slaves are women and almost all of them get violated - repeatedly. I started skipping the bad guys perspectives on principle.

The lesbian romance gets kick-started by one being forced to just have strong feelings for the other by their slave brand. Mutual consent isn't much of a concern here either - for example when one of them just decides she's going to sleep with whoever comes along and asks her to and her girlfriend is expected to just go along with that.

On another note the adventurers delving the dungeon plot that started in the later half of the book did not tie in with the war between two kingdoms narrative the story had been following so far which ment I was not invested in it and started skipping it to.

In summary, the first chapters as well as the admirable reading performance got me invested enough in the story that I at least finished the book - skipping the perspectives of a few characters here and there. But that is the best I can say.

I have no intention of listening to this again and I can not recommend it either.

Man writing women and lesbians at that
