Late October 1909, and the season of ghouls and things that go bump in the night has descended on the village of Littleton Cotterell.

Lady Hardcastle and her trusted lady’s maid, Florence, find themselves hosting a colorful cast of actors whose spooky moving picture, The Witch’s Downfall, is being shown to mark Halloween. But things take a macabre turn when the first night’s screening ends with a mysterious murder, and the second night with another.... One by one the actors turn up dead in ways that eerily echo their film.

With the police left scratching their heads, Lady Hardcastle calls upon her amateur sleuthing skills to launch an investigation, with Flo’s able assistance. Surrounded by suspects both human and supernatural, Lady Hardcastle must use a little trickery of her own to unmask the murderer.

I absolutely love these books. Lady Hardcastle and Flo are my new favourite sleuths. Can't wait for the 5th book to come out.

Die Kriminalfälle werden mit jedem Band besser. Aber es ist die Sprecherin, die die Charaktere zum Leben erweckt. Das Wichtigste an diesen Büchern ist aber das historische Lokalkolorit und die Sprachspielereien des Autors. Sie machen den Unterhaltungswert aus.

I'm a fan of the Lady Hardcastle mystery series, so I had actually waited for this book.
Like the other sequels, it is funny, witty, and although it didn't take me quite till the end to guess whodunnit, it was still fascinating.

The Narrator (I listened to the audio book), Elizabeth Knowelden, is fantastic. Her narration absolutely enhances the book for me. I look forword to future books in the series (which will hopefully be written and narrated).

ich hätte gedacht, 1909 wäre noch die Pionierzeit des Films, aber da hab ich mich wohl geirrt.
Die Technik, mit der Lady Hardcastle ihren Film produziert, wurde übrigens bei "Wallace und Gromit" und mit ihnen verwandten Filmen auch noch angewendet.
Interessant zu erfahren, daß ursprünglich New Jersey das Zentrum der Filmindustrie war.
Keine weiteren Anmerkungen zum Inhalt - Spoilergefahr!
Unbedingt anhören, wenn geistreiche, witzige und spannende Unterhaltung (auf Englisch) gewünscht wird

Interesting plot with some unexpected twists at the end, nicely read. I truly enjoy listening to how those lovely get along and solve mysteries.
