A former assassin. An unspeakable past. A new beginning. Abandoned at birth and raised to be an assassin by the mysterious Diyu Brotherhood, Danzen has had enough of the life of a contract killer. But escaping his past is as impossible as running from his inner demons.... In the remote and...

Retiring peacefully in Genshin Valley was never an option for Danzen Ravja, regardless of his intentions. To prevent any more attacks on the defenseless valley he now calls home, Danzen and his yokai companions head west to address the Diyu Brotherhood head-on, to face down two honorable assassins and even more with no honor at all.

No matter which way Danzen Ravja turns, someone wants to kill him or exploit his demonic powers. When his monastery in Genshin Valley gets too crowded, Danzen once again travels west with his yokai companions, Jelmay and Kudzu, in the hopes of spending some time in the north to bend his echo. But disappearing isn't going to be as easy as it seems.

Danzen Ravja is determined to rebuild Sunyata and will stop at nothing to accomplish this task. He doesn’t want his demon father’s throne, nor does he want anything to do with his former life as a ruthless assassin for the Diyu Brotherhood. But his brother, Nomtoi, has other plans. Jealous of the attention their father pays to Danzen, Nomtoi frees seven of the worst, most demonic beings in existence from the depths of Diyu to thwart Danzen’s quest.

Danzen Ravja’s life has never been easy, not when he was an orphan at the Diyu Brotherhood, not since he retired from the blood trade, and certainly not since he began cultivating his echo, which has unlocked an entirely new level of enemies. Nomtoi, Danzen’s demon half-brother, has unleashed the Seven Evils, the most vile hellspawns that Diyu has to offer. While Danzen and his companions have been able to stop some of them already, Uchi and Kitazawa prove to be challenges that they may not be able to overcome.

Danzen Ravja never was the type to feel as if he'd figured it all out. Yet as his group heads west to collect Sunyata remnants with the hopes of using them to rebuild a fallen heaven, Danzen at least assumes that he is on the right path. But fate has other plans for the former assassin, especially after Danzen comes into contact with a fallen angel who knows more about rebuilding Sunyata than he's letting on.

Danzen Ravja has always been a killer, but on the day he finds himself standing over the corpse of an old friend, he knows it is time for a change. Even if it takes everything he has, everything he is able to do, Danzen will rebuild heaven. He has reached the highest level of cultivable power in the Kishu Kingdom, but as he soon knows, he has a long way to go if he truly wants to be strong enough to take on his demon father and his jealous brother.

Danzen heads to Diyu in search of the Fatebricks of Sunyata, straight into the belly of the beast. Past enemies, demonic family members, and new rivals, the eighth installment of the bestselling Pilgrim series brings this cultivation saga full circle!
