This Audible Exclusive production revisits Charles Dickens’ tragi-comic novel Little Dorrit. Written during the Crimean War, it a story of fortunes won and lost and a masterly portrayal of the failings of Victorian Society, with the ever-present spectre of law enforcement and imprisonment looming over a fearful population. Divided into two parts, Book One: Poverty and Book Two: Riches, Little Dorrit satirises the debtors prisons and the detrimental effect of enforcing a British class system.

In a world of wealth, debt, and deception, Amy Dorrit has spent her life in the shadows, born and raised in the notorious Marshalsea Prison where her father has been locked away for years. But while the world around her is obsessed with status and money, Amy remains a beacon of kindness and resilience. When she crosses paths with the wealthy, yet troubled Arthur Clennam, their lives intertwine in a journey of secrets, betrayal, and the search for freedom.

A sweeping tale of hardship and redemption, Little Dorrit stands as one of Dickens’s most profound works—an exploration of human dignity in the face of injustice, and a timeless affirmation of resilience, compassion, and the enduring hope for freedom.

One of Charles Dickens's most personally resonant novels, Little Dorrit speaks across the centuries to the modern audience. Its depiction of shady financiers and banking collapses seems uncannily topical, as does Dickens's compassionate admiration for Amy Dorrit, the "child of the Marshalsea," as she struggles to hold her family together in the face of neglect, irresponsibility, and ruin. Intricate in its plotting, the novel also satirizes the cumbersome machinery of government.
