Saiya Buchanan is a wraith, able to detach her shadow from her body and send it off to do her bidding. But, unlike most of her kin, Saiya doesn't deal in death. The story is compelling and interesting. The obstacles the heroine has to face are believeable and it's easy to empathize with her. There are aplenty well-thought through three dimensional characters.
However, the letdown of this book is the romantic part. The darkelf-wraith combination could have been very dynamic and romantic also but their emotions are rendered unnatural by the quick fix the author uses for this.
The speaker has an accent which fits the book quite well and I especially liked the goblings voices. However sometimes it is a little overdramatized.
Overall, this is a solid read I can recommend.

Interesting story

Zum Glück hat sich meine Befürchtung, diese Geschichte würde haltlos zu einem der vielen, belanglosen Frauen - Mystery - Porno - Derivate abdriften nicht bestätigt. Es hatte zwar einige dieser typischen Momente, aber sie nahmen dankenswerterweise nicht überhand. Die Idee ist gut, die Charaktere glaubhaft und die Geschichte plausibel. Vor allem die Nebenfiguren sind liebevoll und plastisch ausgearbeitet. Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen werde ich diese Storyline weiter verfolgen, sollte sie fortgesetzt werden.
Die Sprecherin ist ebenfalls angenehm zu hören, gerne mehr davon

The story is quite good, let’s say the idea is good but not so much the way it was worked out. The whole why and when wasn’t mentioned in my opinion, no backstory no explanation why they are in this situation as well as nothing on why Stirling was besieged by Goblins. And the relationship between Gabriel and the main character just annoyed me most of the time. In the beginning I was hopeful but then it just got worse from each interaction. If you had difficulty in the beginning with the Performance you might get used to it but you might never enjoy it.

I was afraid that book would leave me with a cliffhanger. Especially at the end when I saw there was only one hour of book left and I didn't know the end yet. But it's a standalone title and my fear was unnecessary.

The voice actress did a great job. The goblin voices made me smile. But she really put very much live into the book and acted out feelings and nuances. Bravo!

I very much liked the main character. She isn't only a wraith but also very smart for example when she makes herself small and speaks with a winy voice to make the goblins think she's weak. They don't see her as a threat and the more she can achieve.
She also didn't fall for the guy at first sight, even when chemistry told her to. I could have gone without the explicit scene, but it's okay.

Another review said that the book just goes in without explanation. There's goblins in Stirling and darkelfs exist. Well yeah it's a fantasy book and I had no problem with jumping right into the story. It's a three stars read for me because it was a good book, but didn't make me jump up and down. Helen Harper has the gift to write a variety of books that feel completely different and if you hated one, you might actually love another.

War mal was Anderes. Helen Harper hat einen tollen Erzählstil, die Sprecherin ist ebenfalls super. Würde gerne mehr Geschichten dieser Art hören...
