the roadmap to freedom

I was thinking for a while to read this book and was happy to see it is now available as an audiobook.
Self-love is something that has become trendy, but also very empty in a way. There is no tutorial to find THE WAY to self-love. As Florence explains it is different for everyone. But learning to set boundaries and getting to know the social expectations that we live by is a very good way to start. I cannot wait to put this in practice and am really excited to see where this is taking me.

I enjoyed this book very much. It mentions everythong we need to know on how to become better people, and how to stand up for ourselves. Loved it!

Pretty awesome

The author gives the sympathetic but straight talk that should be common sense about what it takes to free yourself from society's nonsense view on women and their pretty complete selves, that owe shit to nobody but themselves. Including the also obvious need to check on our own indoctrinated views, stereotypes, resentment towards women or blind trust social constructs in general. A book like a party, which will leave you refreshed and empowered while feeding the brain- perfect!

Florence Given encourages us to take an honest look at ourselves and make adjustments. A roadmap to liberating ourselves from societal conditioning and finding freedom through setting boundaries. Enlightening, challenging, and very worthwhile

Cookie cutter feminist book

I was really looking forward to listening to this book. The author’s narration and passion was the only thing that was worth it in the end, though.

The sentiment behind the book is definitely something that I support. By it felt that the author was a teenage girl giving advice to other teenagers after their first heartbreak.

Boundaries ARE important. Self love IS important. Taking down the patriarchy one step at a time IS important. But defending your shitty actions with the cure-all phrase “if they cannot accept you exactly as you are, cut them out of your life” is not a healthy world view. Our society is built on compromise. Not supporting the patriarchy does not mean that there is no need to compromise in certain cases and compromise does not mean that you are betraying yourself or your views.

Sadly, I will not be suggesting this book to others, as it feels immature.
